Theme Woes
Well, everyone, it’s been quite a while since I’ve posted. I’ve been working on a lot of things:
- Revising Vengeance, Book 4 in the Nine Lies Series
- The sequel to another book that I just wrote out of the blue about a month ago (!)
- Designs for some other things you might enjoy (more on that when they’re ready)
And–and this is where this post gets relevant–
- A redesign of my website
Sadly, I’ve been working on this redesign since December of 2018. I’ve made so much progress, but there’s always more to do, and every time I turn around everything has updated itself and I have to readjust the work I’ve done to accommodate new standards. It’s exhausting and discouraging so I put it off, which makes it drag out even further.
Anyway, I finally got warned by WordPress that I needed to update my site to a newer version of PHP. So I did it, but of course that broke my theme, because I’ve been using an outdated version of my theme for eons now. I know you’re not supposed to do that, but every time I updpate my theme it breaks itself and makes my homepage look all wrong. I like the masonry setting the theme had when I got it but now that setting never works. Even though it’s there and available in the options like it should work, selecting it and applying my changes does absolutely nothing. It’s a free theme and I realized years ago that the developers don’t really stay on top of what their theme users have problems with, so I’ve been redesigning my whole site so I can use a better theme (although this one was good for what it was).
I’m still not done with the redesign (and have no idea when I will be, since it’s already been a year and a half and here we are!), but I finally had to update my site’s PHP and update my theme, so until I get my new site rolled out I apologize for the totally terrible-looking and wonky homepage with my blog posts all cattywampus.
The good news, though, is that my new version of the site, even though it’s still unfinished, looks way better than the current version, so it should be pretty awesome when it gets rolled out.
Thanks for your understanding and your patience!
Update on 3/7/2024: In the end I ended up coding my entire website’s design myself from scratch, so by the time you see this you’re seeing a whole new website, not a WordPress site and not one using a theme. So hopefully it all looks better now!
